Atlanta Movie Reviews: Spy, Entourage, and Insidious: Chapter 3

An undercover spy, a bro-filled comedy, and a terrifying treat light up the big screen this weekend. What are you going to see?

Melissa McCarthy has become the newest Queen of Comedy and is at her best when paired with director Paul Feig, who helped her and Sandra Bullock top the box office with The Heat in 2013. With the newest comedy, Spy, McCarthy plays a CIA analyst who gets chosen to go undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer. With co-stars Jude Law, Rose Byrne, and Jason Statham, Spy is part brilliant comedy and part effective action flick. Critics are giving it high praise for its continuous inducing of belly laughs and witty turn on the spy spoof genre.

Released this past Wednesday, Entourage has enjoyed a steady top spot at the week’s box office, so far. Based on the hit HBO show of the same name, Entourage follows a group of Hollywood bros traversing through the ins and outs of the industry. Starring Jeremy Piven, Kevin Dillon, Adrian Grenier, Scott Caan, and Kevin Connolly, plus countless cameos, Entourage feels less like a complete package film and more like an extended episode of the show, which may be exactly what fans are looking for.

The third part of any franchise is hard to pull off. That rule doesn’t usually apply to horror films, though, as it’s all about the scares and less about the plot. The Insidious franchise, however, has done a clever job of keeping things steadily progressing. Chapter 3 is a step in reverse, serving as a sort-of prequel to the other two films. Critics are saying it isn’t quite a terrifying this time around, but still offers enough scares and great performances to make it feel worth it.

See: Spy

Skip: Entourage (unless you’re a die-hard fan of the show)
