The board said previously it planned to hire Green, but legally had to wait until Thursday to extend a contract, WABE reports. It was unclear early Thursday how much Green will be paid.
Green says he will be a hands-on leader. He said he sought the job to be closer to his children and grandchildren, who live in Atlanta.
